At a recent meeting of the Floyd Amateur Radio Society, two presentations by local Cub Scouts.
Cub Scout Troop 36 presented Russ Abbey KG4MAV with a thank you photo for telling them about Amateur Radio and for letting them talk to others on the radio. The Cubs were ecstatic to be able to talk to a gentleman in Eastern Michigan right on the shores of Lade Michigan.
The Cub Scouts also recognized Dave Larsen. KK4WW for the use of the Floyd Amateur Radio Station and his help with the Scouts' visit on February 4th. "We are always happt to help the Scouts," said Larsen and Abbey. "They are the next generation of Amateur Radio Operators and Technicians."
Abbey said he is willing to help anyone who wants to learn more about Amateur Radio or Electronics in general. "With the Morse Code on longer required to become a 'Ham', there has been a large influx of new operators. The first license in fairly easy; it's 25 questions covering the rules and very elemental questions about electronics. There are also questions about the frequencies that the Technician can operate in."
The 3 classes of licenses include Technician, General, and Extra. The higher the license the more higher frequencies and privileges the Ham has, also the harder the test.
If you are interested in becoming a Ham or just curios give Russ Abbey a call at 6514072 or by email at kg4mav@gmail.com, or stop by a meeting in suite 9 of the Village Green on the second Saturday of each month at 9 a.m.
