Sarah LaPointe tells the story behind her unique business in Floyd,VA.

LaPointe's Books was started in Radford, VA, in 2000 and moved to Floyd in 2002.
I've been working in bookstores on and off since 1992. My first bookstore job was at The Printed Past Bookshop in Worcester, MA, while attending Clark University. After moving to the west coast, I found a job at Escape Books (a science fiction, horror, and fantasy bookstore) in Eugene, OR. I moved to Blacksburg, VA, in 1999 to help a friend, Roger Hjulstrom, manage Past Pages Bookshop downtown on Jackson St. I worked there for a year and then, with Roger's help, opened my own bookstore on Tyler Ave. in Radford in 2000. The store was located in a beautiful old house across from Radford University. However, even with the large student population, sales in Radford were slow. I started looking for a new place to move the store to and found a nice location near downtown Floyd in 2002. The store was "online-only" for a year and then opened for business in July of 2003. It is located about 1/4 mile north of the stoplight on Route 8.

Sales in Floyd have grown steadily for the last few years and I've enjoyed meeting and talking about books with many old and new customers. I think LaPointe's Books will be staying in Floyd for a good long while. Thanks for your support! -Sarah LaPointe
