Whispers for Jan. 3, 2008

We have cleaned house!  Volunteers have been coming in to Angels in the Attic, as they had time during the holidays, and spent many hours cleaning.  The Christmas ornaments and decorations have been boxed up and put away.  Shelves have been cleared, clothing sorted out and we even swept the corners and all the hard places to get to.  We have received loads of new donations, (and I really mean truck loads) which have been put on the shelves.  This week we are getting a dish washer in good working condition.  Check with the volunteers as it may not be in the store until later in this week.

You may have received a picture for Christmas that needs a frame.  We have them: every size, shape and material.  We even have frames with themes.  Maybe your child drew a picture, either at home or school that is worthy of more attention than just taped to the refrigerator.  Why not frame it and hang it in their room as a special treat.

If it is a tradition at your house, as it is at ours you may need a new jigsaw puzzle to work on during the long winter nights.  We have a good supply. (No guarantee that all the pieces are there, but that is what makes it interesting, right?)

We are often asked why we can’t be open more days of the week or at least during the holidays.  The answer is simple: volunteers.  There just aren’t enough to be open more days without it being a big burden on those who volunteer their time.  All help is volunteered.  All merchandise is donated.  All our proceeds go to help charities within Floyd County.  During the month of December, we had outstanding sales every day and we were able to turn generous amounts to the charities.  Many customers tell us we are the best thing to happen to Floyd County.  We are pleased to serve in whatever ways we can and give God the glory for our success.

We want to give Barb and Skip Pendery special credit and thanks for diligently volunteering their time and making all the hard decisions.  There are many other names that should be mentioned, but just let us say we thank them all and appreciate what they do.

Angels in the Attic is located at 210 S. Locust St. in Floyd, Va.  We are open Tues. and Fri. from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.., reopening on Friday evenings from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
